Elizabeth Enders was born in 1939 in New London, CT. In 1962, she graduated with a B.A. from Connecticut College and later received her M.A. from New York University in 1987. Enders combines figuration and abstraction in her colorful, emotive landscapes that are at once familiar and otherworldly. She is also interested in the implications of language on meaning, and incorporates ciphers into her paintings. Through bright tones and gestural strokes, she evokes beauty through immediacy. Enders has been exhibiting her work in a variety of institutions and galleries since the 1960s. Her work is included in the collections of the Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, MA; the Brooklyn Museum of Art, NY; the Detroit Institute of Arts, MI; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA; the Smith College Museum of Art, Northampton, MA; and the Whitney Museum, New York, NY, among others.
