Ella Bats
French, b. 1993
Ella Bats is a French photographer artist based in Paris. She graduated in art and graphic
design from ENSAAMA and later attended the Gobelins School of Image for photography
until 2017.
What is evident in her work is the proximity between painting and material that she
translates through art, fashion, and portraiture.
Ella Bats explores the medium of digital photography, utilizing the capabilities of retouching
through layering, multiplication, and fusion of different layers.
She questions the connections between an individual's inner world and how it can be
represented. She establishes an intimate dialogue with her subjects, allowing their humanity
to appear uniquely. Photography has always been, for her, both a means of representing a
world and an attempt to understand others.
Her works have been exhibited at Samaritaine (2022/2023), MAP Festival (2022), Tranoï
showroom at Palais Brongniart (2022), Villa Noailles Festival in Hyères (2021), Galerie Madé
(2021), Tom Faulkner Designer showroom in London (2021), Paul Smith Albemarle Street
space in London (2021), Fashion for Sidaction photo sale (2021), Rencontres
photographiques du 10ème festival (2019), PH21 Gallery in Budapest (2017), Promenades
photographiques de Vendôme with the Mark Grosset Prize (2016), Terroirs de France and
Jeune Photographie exhibition in Berlin, Yokohama, and Moscow (2016), and was selected as
a finalist for the Picto Fashion Photography Award (2021).
