Emily Wise
American, b. 1988
Emily Wise (b. 1988) is an American painter whose practice explores femininity, intimacy, and the interplay between myth, memory, and the natural world. Working in luminous, fluorescent palettes, she depicts female figures within surreal botanical environments, where the boundaries between lived experience and the fantastical are intentionally blurred. Her compositions are informed by a wide range of sources—classical mythology, folklore, poetry, and personal memory—woven together to construct layered narratives of women in spaces of self-reflection, connection, and transformation. By staging bodies within dreamlike settings, Wise considers the emotional and symbolic dimensions of feminine space and possibility.
Her work has been exhibited in the United States and featured on national and international platforms. In addition to her studio practice, Wise curates exhibitions that highlight the work of emerging artists.
