Eric Standley
American, b. 1968
Eric Standley creates geometric paper sculptures that evoke the ornate designs of Gothic and Islamic architecture. His elaborate works reflect his technical mastery of CNC laser cutting; each intricate pattern is constructed of dozens of layers of thin-sliced paper that he carefully paints. An MFA graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Standley has gained international buzz for his innovative engraving techniques. A solo presentation at the Sharjah Art Museum in 2019 solidified his popularity in the United Arab Emirates. Standley describes his paper works as “artifacts” because they echo the harmonies and contemplative nature of ancient designs from stained glass rose windows to mandelas. These works are in collections including the Taubman Museum of Art and the Cordova Historical Museum.
