Biography

Erik Jones was born in 1982 in St. Petersburg, Florida, and he received a Bachelor of Arts at Ringling College of Art and Design in 2007. He is the artist of predominantly vibrant and colourful pieces whose main subjects are female nude portraits. At first glance, one can notice the recurrence of the same scheme of colours and shapes that resemble some futurist paintings and their ordered compositions.
Jones mixes geometric patterns with fashion codes and realist portraits, to create an active mélange of contrasts and bright colours. Hyper-realistic faces, enclosed by the colourful geometric design, seem to live and breathe as independent organisms and unique species.
Jones, indeed, does not look for any virtual universe; what he tries to pursue is a concrete conversation between the viewer and a reverie that looks real.
Watercolour, coloured pencil, acrylic, water-soluble wax and oil pastel on paper are employed by the artist to create a form of imposing abstractionism that marries perfectly with an everlasting figurative urge.
