Biography

Evan Holloway’s idiosyncratic sculptural installations are emphatically low-tech; in fact, he coined the term “analog counterrevolution” to describe his strategy. Self-amused but serious nonetheless, Holloway combines ready-made materials like light bulbs, batteries, barbed wire, and baby dolls with traditional sculpture media such as beams, posts, and steel. Combining a casual aesthetic with titles such as Reverse Grey Scale (2008), Form vs. Content (2006), and Asymmetry Demonstration (2006), Holloway reveals a skeptical, irreverent attitude toward contemporary theory and the history of art.
