Fanny Sanín
Colombian, b. 1938
Fanny Sanín, a Colombian-born artist, is celebrated for her abstract geometric paintings. Filled with flat planes of color and hard-edge, symmetrical designs, Sanín’s work is influenced by renowned artists like Ellsworth Kelly and Frank Stella. Her methodical process is meditative in nature, involving the creation of numerous preparatory studies and the meticulous mixing of her own pigments. A graduate of the University of Los Andes, Sanín’s work is included in prominent collections, such as the Museo Nacional de Colombia and El Museo del Barrio, New York City. She was the subject of a solo show at National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington D.C. in 2017. Her legacy was further cemented in the 2019 monograph Fanny Sanín: The Concrete Language of Color and Structure.
