Frances Trombly
American, b. 1976
Frances Trombly (b. 1976, Miami, FL)’s work considers the relationship between textiles and painting, revealing process and labor by deconstructing the canvas. Borrowing from polarizing arenas such as craft, art practices, labor and mass production, Trombly reinvents not only the raw materials of studio practice, but their sanctions in art history and authority in colloquial utilization. Her work has been exhibited at Perez Art Museum Miami; The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (Ridgefield, CT); the Quebec City Biennale (Quebec City, Canada); and the Museum of Contemporary Art (Miami, FL); among others. Trombly received the Miami Individual Artist Grant (MIA) for 2024-2025; ArtPace Residency (2022) in San Antonio, TX; Oolite Arts Residency (2019) in Miami Beach, FL; and Hambidge Center Residency (2019) in Rabun Gap, GA.
