Frauke Dannert
German, b. 1979
Frauke Dannert b. 1979 in Herdecke studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf and at the Goldsmiths College in London.
Frauke Dannert has exclusively devoted herself to the art of collage. These collages manifest themselves on paper, wall paintings, carpet inlays, curtains, projections, films and photographs. The collage technique always takes from the existing and manages to reassemble the real, without being tied to a style or a medium.
Dannert source material ranges from print media, images found on the Internet, to her own her own photographs. Once she has decided on a motif, she replicates it with the help of a photocopier. The loss in the sharpness and other nuances created by this process change the original image and are consciously accepted, creating a development of the original image into a unique copy. By reducing the photocopies to black, white and grey tones she creates a distancing from reality. After duplication, the gap comes into play, with which Frauke Dannert determines the shapes and thus the further degree of alienation of her motifs.
In her installations of projects, wall- and ground-works she transfers photographic architectural fragments into a room and therefore allowing the viewer to experience these architectural fragments in a new architectural composition.
