GamFratesi

Biography

Founded in 2006 by architects Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi, the Copenhagen-based firm GamFratesi twists classic Scandinavian design, explaining: “Our work is balancing between the traditional and surprising. Often it takes just a small detail to achieve or break an expression, and we are very curious about that.” This dedication to subtle tinkering expresses itself in furniture whose proportions are exaggerated in unexpected—and often humorous—ways. Their “Rewrite” desk looks like a midcentury card table, but hooded beneath a fiberglass shell, and “The Haiku Sofa,” which was nominated for the Danish Design Awards, is, as they describe, “a reinterpretation of a Haiku, a traditional, compact and evocative form of Japanese poetry, intended as a sensory image to suggest an emotion.”
