Geoffrey Short

With a background in film still photography, Geoffrey Short is known for his dynamic representations of stage-managed explosions, as in Untitled Explosion #1 (2007). By capturing these ephemeral and awe-inspiring occurrences, Short’s work invites associations with universal themes of life, death, and cosmic creation—as seen in one of his series is entitled “Towards another (big bang) theory.” Though his fiery subjects appear to have a life of their own, Short’s work is the result of precise planning and execution, blurring the line between natural phenomena and man-made artifice.
