Gerdine Duijsens
Dutch
Gerdine Duijsens produces colorful paintings of cartoon-like characters, often calm and collected socialites shown in energetic dining or party scenes, as in Queen Of The Party (2020). Duijsens’s blasé subjects are seen holding glasses of alcohol and standing huddled amongst one another, their heads held almost irrationally high to convey their inheritance of superiority. The works explore notions of status and success as they tease out modern culture and the cult of consumerism that so many are possessed with. Blending elements of figuration and abstraction, Duijsens produces distinctly recognizable works characterized by rich hues and expressive brushstrokes. In addition to her opulent social scenes, Duijsens is also known for her purely abstract works, as well as her renderings of animals. Her paintings have been exhibited in shows across Europe.
