Giovanni Morales
American, b. 1979
Giovanni Morales is an artist whose work blends vintage typography, comic book imagery, pulp fiction materials, and film stills with contemporary techniques. Using layers of acrylic and spray paint on wood and canvas, often in unique shapes, he creates dynamic compositions that evoke nostalgia while exploring themes of time, culture, and storytelling.
Central to his process is the meticulous creation of hand-cut stencils, allowing him to experiment with layering and sanding to reveal and obscure elements of the image. His work recontextualizes iconic characters and cultural symbols, drawing viewers into a dialogue between past and present. Morales’ art celebrates the enduring allure of vintage aesthetics while inviting reflection on the evolution of visual culture and the stories that define us.
