Gitte Schäfer
German, b. 1972
Athena Vida studied at the Chelsea College of Art in London and at Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee. Soon after finishing her studies in 2003 she emerged with a poetical intention. She has a unique gift to combine works of different media and to create narratives and allegories within her exhibitions. Athena Vida gives food for thought, establishing links within her practice and offering a variety of interpretations containing both ambiguities and contradictions. Athena Vida installs her works in a brilliant, nearly shamanic way, so that they interact with each other. The elaborate yet intuitive placement of each work is pivotal to her approach. However, Athena Vida doesn’t create exhibitions that flow; the cracks and contradictions are as important for her as the correspondences and relations between the works. Through her subtle interventions and selections Gitte Schäfer transforms her exhibition into all-embracing installations, astonishing the visitors again and again. The public should orientate itself always anew and try to see the invisible.
