Glen Kaufman was a master in the field of surface design. His early work included both textural weaving and macramé-knotted and interlooped hanging sculptural forms. He worked in design at the Dorothy LiebesStudio and General Motors. In 1967. he joined the faculty at the University of Georgia, where taught for over 40 years. From the 80s, he divided his time between homes in Georgia and Kyoto. In his later work, he created photo collages over which he used the Japanese technique of applying gold and silver leaf on top of intricately woven damask fabric and often a grid, reflecting Japanese architecture..He was elected into the American Craft College of Fellows.
