Gloria Mmaduako
Nigerian, b. 1994
Gloria Mmaduako's current body of work employs an artistic style that ranges from naturalism to semi-abstraction. The main subjects of her work are beautiful young nubiles exhibiting contemporary femme attitudes characteristic of today's generation. In Mmaduako's thematic expressions, we see her pro-women inclination, which also encompasses some of the general issues that confront our humanity. One such element is Mmaduako's penchant for the abundant beauty, protection and nourishment inherent in nature. The leaf for her symbolizes nature and serves as a connecting leitmotif in all her paintings, wherein they serve as headgear as if to tell the story about the awareness that we ought to have about nature.
Mmaduako's artistic medium is oil and acrylic on canvas. Her mastery of the media produces beautiful results, especially in her achievement of depth and texture. Her treatment of the leaves in her various compositions with varied hues, as well as her recreations of the veins of the leaves into magnificent crowns is but a testament to her understanding of oil and acrylic as a media.
