Greg Spalenka
American
After graduating from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California in 1982, Greg Spalenka moved to New York City and began illustrating for America’s most prominent publishers of books, magazines, and newspapers. Two decades later, he worked as a concept designer on feature CG animated and live action films, such as The Ant Bully, The Golden Compass, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and Escape From Planet Earth.
A cross disciplinary artist, Greg loves to work in different mediums, from high touch to high tech, paint to pixels, photography to music, or books to film. Recent multi-media personal projects include a graphic novel, Memory of a Cosmic Heart, and the Goddess is Rising cyanotype series, pieces of which are featured in Wolf Gallery.
For three decades, Greg has been teaching, lecturing, and conducting workshops at colleges, universities, and art institutions around the country and abroad, sharing his professional experience and encouraging the creation of art businesses. Greg even founded the educational service, Artist As Brand, to inspire and nurture art career sustainability.
Living in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with his wife, Roxana Villa, who is also an artist and the botanical perfumer behind Illuminated Perfume, keeps Greg in tune with his essential nature and provides a constant source of creative adventure.
