Guy Yanai
b. 1977
Guy Yanai’s paintings portray everyday scenes with a bright color palette and blocky brushstrokes that give their surfaces a pixelated or collaged appearance. Yanai’s work draws on both the art historical canon and digital age aesthetics, combining the hues of Fauvists such as Henri Matisse with subject matter pulled from television, photography, and movies. His compositions often capture intimate moments of leisure and domestic quietude through a distinctly contemporary lens. Yanai studied at Parsons School of Design and the New York Studio School and received his BFA from Hampshire College. He has exhibited in New York, Berlin, London, Tel Aviv, Los Angeles, and Turin. Yanai has also produced a number of collaborations, including a line of tote bags for Artis, a towel for Hermès, and a collection for designer Scott Sternberg at the label Band of Outsiders.
