Hayden Malan
South African, b. 1994
Hayden Malan works as a landscape architect and artist, holding degrees in Landscape Architecture (honours and master’s) and Fine Art (bachelors) from the University of Cape Town. His ongoing practice in ecology and art centres on the guiding question: "What do plants really want?" At once resisting and quoting traditions of flower arranging, the compositions become a medium for spending (more) time with organic matter and listening to the non-human sentient. It is a preoccupation with the sculptural potential of plants as both natural organisms and modular structures.
