Ian Ratowsky

“The work is never done, it is completed,” says figurative painter Ian Ratowsky of his large-scale modernist portraits. “Faces are in one position, yet in many positions. Dual realities. There is a mood, a stare, a moment that seems frozen, but stays alive.” Ratowsky’s recent series incorporates acrylics, pastels, and Japanese inks painted on Tequila paper created from agave fiber in Jalisco, Mexico. The artist, who lives a nomadic lifestyle, has painted his works in hotels in Costa Rica, India, and across the United States.
