Ian Ross

Combining graffiti techniques and brash colors with natural forms, Ian Ross paints with an energy that almost needs to be seen to be believed. The San Francisco-based artist and muralist is known for his live paintings and his spontaneous approach—working “without the burden of intention,” as he describes it—which has attracted the attention and commissions of Silicon Valley tech companies like Google and Facebook, where he was the resident artist in 2011. While at Facebook, he discovered his love of large-scale works, which he creates in addition to studio pieces. “I just start going, don’t worry too much, don’t have a plan,” he has said. “I paint based on the energy of wherever I’m at.”
