Imge Özbilge

Imge Özbilge is a multidisciplinary artist with a multicultural background. She has lived in countries such as Austria, Spain, Turkey, the Netherlands and is currently residing in Belgium. The starting point of her practice is based on research. Conceptual questions are followed by the exploration of figurative worlds.
Between 2009 to 2012 the artist was researching the visualisation of Middle Eastern and Mesopotamian mythologies. During this process she developed a passion for Miniature Art. Between 2014 and 2016 she has been inquiring about the contemporary use of this art-form and has written her thesis 'Contemporary Ottoman Miniatures' on the subject matter. The surreal elements of her work are based on Middle Eastern and Mesopotamian myths, yet are also reflections of her own subconscious. The artist collaborates on a regular basis with her sister Sine Özbilge on audio visual projects.

Özbilge's works have been awarded and inquired into important collections. Her short film 'Camouflage' was in the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival in 2017. In 2021 her short film 'Mosaic' won the Honorary Mention at Ars Electronica. Selected works of the artist are in the collection of the M HKA Museum and the Plantin Moretus Museum in Antwerp.
