Biography

Irma Blank (Celle, 1934) practice writing as a tool of intuitive knowledge. Reduces linguistic signs to "Urzeichen", primordial signs. The cycles of Eigenschriften, Transcripts, Radical Writings, Avant-Text, Hyper-Text and Global search mark over forty years writings. Irma exhibited at Gallery Il Capitello in Rome in 1971 and in 1974 Gillo Dorfles curated her personal exhibition at Gallery Cenobio-Visuality in Milan. From 1975 exposes the transcripts in large exhibitions: Art in Progress in Munich, c + d Mueller-Roth in Stuttgart, Gallery Milano in Milan, Folker Skulima in Berlin, O.K. Harris in New York City and Chantal Crousel in Paris. In 1976 the collective exhibition at the Gallery Kunst machen Frauen Philomene Magers in Bonn in 1977 at the Documenta in Kassel and, the following year at Biennial of Venice. During eighties and nineties the Radical writings were presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions including Bleu Carnac and Similar Stories, curated by Lea Vergine at PAC in Milan and Folkwang-Museum in Essen in 1992. In 2005, Irma Blank participated in 14th Rome Quadriennale, and in 2010 at [email protected] exhibition at Center Pompidou in Paris. Her artist's books have been exhibited in important institutions such as Museum of Modern Art in New York and Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
Works of Irma Blank are part of important private and public collections including that of the Museum of Novecento in Milan, Museion of Bolzano and MART in Rovereto.
