Jaime Ruiz Otis recycles and appropriates found materials of a very diverse nature, which he transfers, assembles, and uses to build installations. This proposal —which continues to branch out to date— is called Las Sobras.
He was a member of the National System of Creators (Sistema Nacional de Creadores), in the graphics discipline. He has had exhibitions and individual projects at the Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT), Contemporary Art University Museum-UNAM, San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art (MCASD), Querétaro City Museum, Arróniz Gallery (DF) and La Caja Negra Gallery. (Madrid) among others.
His work is part of the collections of MUAC, MCASD, FEMSA, Imago Mundi, among others. He obtained the Fonca scholarship on three occasions in the disciplines of painting, sculpture and graphics. He has been a Guest Artist-in-Residence at Kultur Kontakt in Vienna (2014) and Tsinghua University in Beijing (2012).
Among his recognitions, the MCASD Start Up Award that he obtained in 2005 and second place in the 2009 Mexican Contemporary Print Biennial stand out.
