Jamie Brunson
American, b. 1955
Jamie Brunson was born in Coronado, California and received her MFA from Mills College. Her work is including in several prominent collections such as San Jose Art Museum, Di Rosa Preserve, Embassy of the United States in Doha, Qatar, Nevada Museum of Art, and others. As an artist, Jamie Brunson is interested in the visual translation of her practice of kundalini meditation. Her paintings express a level of consciousness, presence and expansion reached in deep meditation.
“I use lattices to formally represent sensory phenomena that occur in deep meditation—blurring, vibration, spatial depth, dispersion, and radiance, because they’re the closest visual analogues I could find.”
The visual translation of these experience to the viewer is how Brunson determines the success of her work. “[F]or me, the success of these paintings relies on their capacity to evoke analogous sensations of expansion and connection in the people who see them.”
