Jarek Puczel’s serene, minimalist figurative paintings mostly focus on featureless subjects captured amid flat, dreamlike landscapes. Puczel’s works succinctly capture diverse psychological states, his silhouetted forms conveying feelings of communion, wanderlust, and loneliness. The landscapes surrounding them—which resemble the receding non-places of Surrealist painters René Magritte or Salvador Dalí—feature distant mountains or seascape horizons, and his style makes use of both thick impasto strokes and flat planes of hard-edged color. Puczel has exhibited in New York, Berlin, San Francisco, Warsaw, Miami, Basel, Lisbon, and Seattle, among other cities.
