Jason Brent Hope
Barbadian, b. 1978
“The female is a central theme, exploring my identity and perspective as a Barbadian of African descent, the world around me, math, science, music.
In terms of style I work in layers whether sculpting or painting. Light and texture are paramount.” Jason Hope uses a wide repertoire of materials and techniques as they allow him to express his work in the form that best articulates his vision. In order to be allowed to fully explore his subject matter he can not be bound by material or technique. Truthful expression is the technique Hope constantly strives to master.
His style is grounded in realism, but could be better described as an expressive, contemporary abstract, mixed with Surrealism and is constantly evolving as he is unafraid to explore new styles and forms.
He is intrigued by people and their forms, the woven structures they create whether social, scientific or cultural. Hope endeavors to explore the webs he connects to in detail.
