Jazmin Donaldson
Argentine, b. 1985
Jazmin Donaldson explores the power of painting to tell stories. These stories begin from an autobiographical standpoint and then take on their own form by adding fantastical elements. They resonate with dark humor and are influenced by the world of fairy tales and myths, where she reuses familiar motifs to tell contemporary tales.
She graduated from the Master of Fine Arts program at the Slade School of Fine Art (University College London). Her work has been exhibited internationally in cities such as Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, New York, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid, and London. She carefully considers the creation of each character in her stories and what they represent. Through various images, she examines themes of identity and transformation, absurdity, and role changes. In the language of painting, she's interested in how the fragmentation of spaces can exist to introduce the notion of time. We live in an era where we seem to experience everything with extreme immediacy. In this context, she analyzes how our own memories and fantasies can impact the experience of the present moment.
