In her stylized, sometimes disturbing paintings of the human figure, Jennifer Poon explores the intersection of the psyche and the physical body. She uses a painterly aesthetic to depict her subjects in a grotesque, often sexualized manner, recalling the work of Egon Schiele in both style and psychological weight. “I use the body as an anchor for discussion of human emotion, death, and decay,” Poon says. “[…] I want to bring these feelings up to the surface to create a connection between the work and the viewer, ultimately bringing the viewer back to a point of introspection.”
