Artist Jiyong Lee’s glass sculptures are inspired by biology, including the molecular and microscopic. The artist’s ongoing “Segmentation Series” explores the evolution of a single cell in colorful and precise geometric shapes. Employing both matte and smooth glass, Lee plays with transparency and opacity to suggest the known and unknown in science, and in life. Winner of the Emerging Artist Award from the Glass Art Society, Lee directs the glass program at Southern Illinois University. His work is in the collections of the Corning Museum of Glass and the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington.
