His paintings merge Color Field Painting’s concern with the interaction of flat color planes with the superficial colorations and iconography of Pop art. He is best known for “Gas” (2001), a series of mixed-media photographic works that explored the intersection between natural resources and the popular iconography of the road trip, from gas stations signs to indistinct landscapes.
