José Bento's artistic practice takes place through sculptural experimentation, particularly using materials such as glass, metal, stone, fabric, and wood. The artist practice also includes photography, video, and installation. The multiplicity of readings and the articulation of oppositions constitute the core of José Bento's oeuvre. He has participated in several group shows, including the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo; the 13th Mercosul Biennial; the Benin Biennial, in 2012. As well as exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo (MAM-SP); the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM-RJ), and the Brazilian Museum of Sculpture and Ecology (MuBE). Bento's work has been acquired by several public collections of Brazilian institutions such as: Museu de Arte da Pampulha; Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo; Instituto Itaú Cultural, and Museu Nacional de Belas Artes.
