Biography

Josephine Pryde’s work explores the styles, techniques, and functions of photography. Her 2011 exhibit “Embyros and Estate Agents: L’Art de Vivre” combined medical imaging, landscape, and faux-commercial portraits to examine the relationship between bodily and artistic reproduction. Barren desert scenes were digitally collaged with MRI scans of fetuses, while teenage girls were asked to pose as if they were pregnant. The artist has also used double exposures to reference “spirit photography” and the dark room experiments of Man Ray.
