Juan Miguel Pozo
Cuban, b. 1967
Born in 1970, in Holguín, Cuba.
Lives and works between Havana and Berlin.
Juan Miguel Pozo's artistic formation began in Cuba. However, he did not find his own methodology of work until he did higher studies in Germany. In Berlin, he connected himself to the art of the Leipzig school, whose narrative and formal references were linked to the socialist experience of East Germany.
Pozo reconciled himself with his Cuban socialist past not from the social or immediate ideological-political point of view, but from the aesthetic sense he found in the architecture, graphics, propaganda, music and the precarious and vital alternation that was produced, both in that "democratic" Germany and in "revolutionary" Cuba. He systematized all this information through pictorial morphologies, generally large-format figurative ones, which speak of the past and the future at the same time, avoiding any kind of costumbrist obviousness. He studied at the Eart School for Painting and Drawing, Isla de Pinos, Cuba, and at the Art School of Kunstakademie Dusseldorf with the professor. K. Klapheck,Germany.
