Juan Sebastián Peláez
Colombian, b. 1982
Juan Sebastián Peláez experiments with the architecture and aesthetics of internet to talk about: power, history, market, propaganda and resistance. As a result, he produces hyperboles with the appearance of cybernetic randomness; hi-res historic hybrids and colorful updates based on mass market trends.
His work has been exhibited among other in: the 9th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art in the KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, Germany; Les Rencontres d'Arles, France; Bienal Internacional de
Arte Contemporáneo de Cartagena de Indias, Cartagena, Colombia; Salón Nacional de Artistas de Colombia; Museo d'Inverno in Italy; El Parquadero, MAMU, Banco de la Republica, Colombia and in various shows in Argentina, Colombia, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Sweden and USA.
He is the co-founder of the artist run spaces, El Bodegón (2005-2009) and MIAMI (2011-) from Bogotá; and co-director of the offshore contemporary art gallery CARNE (2014-) and Ruberta, based in Los Angeles, USA (2017-).
