Justin Kemp
American, born 1982

In video works, performances, images, and sculptures, Justin Kemp playfully brings the internet under the lens and examines behaviors produced from networked culture. For his work Adding to the Internet (2009), Kemp performed Google image searches with deliberately unrelated combinations of words; when “hotdog under pillow” and “multi-task flask”, among others, yielded no results, the artist created his own images that sought to describe his absurd search terms. In performances that explore social networking status updates (and one in which he engraves the word “internet” into a tree), Kemp pokes fun at the endlessness of online content.
