Justin Winz, Born in 1975 in Northern Germany
Winz is the son of a sculptor and master student of Joseph Beuys. From a young age, Justin engaged with photo-realistic painting and drawing, expressing his inner world and dream imagery through his art. He later transitioned to photography, which quickly became his sole artistic tool while still searching for the connection to painting in this new medium. His journey in photography began in earnest at 22, assisting well known photographers in Germany and France.
Artistic Evolution The artistic pursuit led him to develop the unique 'Chemical-Scan-Technic', a method blending old Polaroid chemicals and digital tools to achieve a painterly effect in his photographs. His style is marked by a blend of mystery and precision, with each image suggesting an underlying secret or code. Justin aims to create 'open spaces' in his works, inviting viewers into an almost surreal, yet familiar world of unique beauty.
Publications and Technique Justin's first self-published artist book, "American Detail" (2008), was a limited, numbered, and signed edition, quickly selling out and gaining notable acclaim. This success was followed by another book "PARIS" in 2011. Presented at PARIS Photo Exhibition in Grand Palais the following year. His works are distinct for their use of a 50-year-old Polaroid Landcamera 190, with images further refined through his signature technique. His books are known for their limited editions, featuring high-quality prints and unique presentation.
Artistic Vision Justin Winz's artistry lies in his ability to capture more than just moments; his photographs are windows into histories, emotions, and untold stories.
