Biography

Born in 1971 in Ziguinchor, Senegal. Kassou Seydou lives and works in
Keur Massar, Senegal.
Trained at the National School of Fine Arts in Dakar between 1998
and 2001, Kassou Seydou participated in a two-year residency in
Joal-Fadiouth, Senegal, birthplace of Léopold Sédar Senghor, with
the association ‘’Portes et passages du retour’’. During this residency,
Kassou Seydou develops the plastic approach that characterizes his
work so far: from the observation of nature and human theatre, the
artist makes the observation that everything is writing and that each
writing is a distorted line to make sign and meaning arise.
When he talks about his work, Kassou Seydou often evokes writing to the world of one’s destiny.
He tries, in an absolute gesture, to make it visible through the matrix of curvilinear motifs that he
extends from canvas to canvas, like a contemporary script. From this are born graphic works in
which symbols and multiple cultural references are mixed together and it is up to the spectator to
decipher them. Thus, he participates in the exhibition In Search of Meaning in 2016 as part of the
OFF of the Dakar Biennale in Senegal.
Kassou Seydou is particularly attentive to the right balance of forces, both in the world and in
his paintings. His canvases highlight, through a careful play of colours and perspectives, the
cohabitation between man and nature, an indispensable factor in the creation of harmony
between beings, both spiritual and physical.

His latest show is with Mestre Projects in The Bahamas " Here comes the Sun" March 2021.
