Katherine Gray
Leading glass blower Katherine Gray creates hand-blown sculptures and installations that emphasize the materiality of this often-transparent industrial substance. In 2020, Gray was elected to the American Craft Council’s distinguished College of Fellows in recognition for her contributions to American craft, and in 2019 she appeared on the Netflix glass-blowing show Blown Away as the resident judge. Gray began working with glass while studying at the Ontario College of Art & Design University in Toronto, and she developed her skills as a student in the Rhode Island School of Design’s MFA program. Though formally diverse, ranging from small amorphous forms to assemblages of found glass, her works are rooted in the chameleonic nature of glass: how it can be clear or opaque, fluid or solid, functional or nonfunctional. Gray has also received the Libenský | Brychtová Award from the Pilchuck Glass School in 2017. She teaches at California State University, San Bernardino.
