Kathleen Dunn

Kathleen Dunn is an painter whose American landscapes call to mind the work of such artists as J.M.W. Turner and George Inness. She depicts the wide open spaces of the Midwestern U.S. with pastel on paper—heavy registers of clouds gathering above a low, flat horizon or a grove of trees showing their late autumn colors. The sweeping works show little influence of man, save for a small barn or other structure that occasionally pops up in the distance. Most of all though, the works celebrate color and geometry with rich hues applied in simple vertical or horizontal strokes suggesting the landscape in the simplest of ways.
