Katie Stout works collaboratively with fellow artists and designers, aligning her aesthetic impulses with the technical skills of others, who are often friends. With Kate Fox, Stout has created a series of digitally printed curtains. The flowing silk curtains adopt a traditional form, yet the two artists print landscapes, such as the gardens at Versailles or stark desert scenes, on the silk, creating something akin to a printed painting on home decor. Several of their works come with 3-D-printed ceramic silk rods. Although their work skews toward decor and craft, unlikely visual decisions and the automated processes that produce the final work reflect a critical attitude toward art, design, and fabrication. The two artists also collaborate on the studio and gallery So What Space, in Brooklyn.
