Kelli Vance
American, b. 1983
Working from staged photographs, Kelli Vance’s paintings borderline on cinematic. Each canvas contains a unique psychological narrative of female figures in mysterious circumstances. Themes of sex, violence and feminism all come into play to create a setting, which is always curious and oftentimes shocking. Vance engages the viewer to experience awkwardness of the moment, asking us to go to places that might not always be comfortable but that will certainly pique the curious mind.
Kelli Vance graduated from the University of Houston with her MFA in 2008. She was included in the 2009 Texas Biennial and in 2014 was a finalist for the Hunting Art Prize. Vance’s work has shown across Texas as well as in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New Mexico.
