Ken Holden

Whether creating kaleidoscopic photograms or impressionistic images of flowers with radically distorted focus, Ken Holden manipulates the mechanics and optics of the camera system to blend imagination with science. His complex work asks the viewer to investigate the processes employed to create it in order to unlock its meaning and understand its subject matter. Holden’s subjects are derived from experiences that, he says, are “on the sidelines of our peripheral vision [and] that often go unnoticed.” For his “Photo Anagram Image” series (2008-11), he used algorithms to transform single source images into complex plays of pattern, shape, and perspective
