Kennedy Yanko uses a unique medium featuring found metal and paint skins to create evocative, abstract sculptures. To create these paint skins, Yanko pours industrial paint onto a covered ground, then peels it off. She then attaches the skin to the metal armatures she has welded, torched, and bent. A piece such as Agate (2019) has an anthropomorphic quality, which Yanko says she uses to address “how human perception and societal expectations are often in conflict with each other.” Yanko was named the 2021 artist-in-residence at Miami’s Rubell Museum of Art and was featured in The Artsy Vanguard 2021 .
