Kevin Hanley

Kevin Hanley creates installations, videos, and digital photographic prints that attempt, as he once said, “to find the space between what one sees and the rationalizing of what one sees.” With the use of appropriated and original imagery, Hanley warps time, space, sound, and color to create new perspectives. In his 2002 video On Another Occasion, Hanley slowly morphs an abstract color field into a crisp image of Fidel Castro’s corpse, turning confusion into clarity and forcing the viewer to unexpectedly comprehend Castro’s inevitable death while simultaneously contemplating the political impact of his life.
