KIM EUN HYUNG
South Korean, b. 1977
Kim Eun Hyung crafts surrealistic works by employing experimental drawings across various formats. In his Designing Egos series, the artist created a brain-shaped sculpture covered in complex images, in an attempt to depict everything that comes to mind. In another drawing series, he artfully melded classical Eastern artworks with Western operas. Though he adheres to the traditional medium of ink-and-wash painting, Kim expresses a wide array of subjects and themes without confining himself to any particular preconceptions. Recently, he has taken to creating diverse narratives with the help of AI-assisted drawings, even showcasing pieces crafted using ChatGPT and DALL·E 2 in his 2023 solo exhibition entitled Tales Of The Barber-Curator at the OCI Museum of Art.
Kim pursued his education at Seoul National University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has been a part of numerous international residency programs, including those at Skowhegan and the International Studio & Curatorial Program. After living in the US from 2006 to 2013, Kim is now based in Seoul.
