Kim Osgood
American, b. 1955
Kim Osgood’s vibrant still life monotypes feature flowers, birds, and fruits as recurring motifs. Harmony in Red (2020) exemplifies the richly detailed and complicated imagery which features throughout her work. Volcanoes, one of the recurring natural phenomena in her work, hold personal symbolic value for the artist; as a young woman, she witnessed Mount St. Helens exploding from her backyard in Portland. Mount St Helens, Adventure (2020) maintains its metaphoric value as it shows the volcano surrounded by symbols of renewal including fireweed and blackberries; it is one of a number of paintings Osgood created for the 40th anniversary of the event. A viscosity resist printmaking technique gives Osgood her unique prints. Although best known for her monotypes, Osgood has begun working with acrylics in order to paint outside her studio.
