Kim Sang Hoon was barely out of school when his Phenomena screen became just that, a phenomenon. Made of undulating horizontal strips of wood, the room divider both separates and brings two spaces together; its structure seems to vibrate with energy, like waves in the ocean or light passing though the leaves of a tree, activating a space with the play of illusions caused by refraction, reflection, and shadow. The Korean-born, New York-based designer finds inspiration in architecture, and creates pieces that define spaces while adding beauty to an environment. He was awarded Rado Young Talent Design Award, as part of the 2010 I.D. Annual Design Review.
