Kina Crow is a self-taught ceramic sculptor whose works convey, as she describes, the “narrative of my view of human behavior” and “the incessant call of [an] unorganized mind.” Her favorite subject is the face, which appears frequently and prominently in her figural works. She makes her sculptures primarily using three ceramics techniques, known as the pinch, coil, and slab methods, and employs homemade glazes. Many of Crow’s works appear as multi-part vignettes, with figures and ceramic panels serving as a backdrop. The works often include a small slab of clay bearing a text or a title. She also makes wall hangings, using a broad variety of mixed materials.
