Kinkas Caetano’s vibrant canvases teem with live totems, including fish, birds, eyes, and female torsos. These flat, figurative icons are intermixed with and layered onto organic and geometric forms, as well as swaths of pure color. Suggesting the influence of abstract expressionism, the artist’s dense compositions evoke aspects of the work of such artists as Asger Jorn, Cy Twombly, and Willem de Kooning.
